This is a list of the bird species recorded in Colombia. The avifauna of Colombia include a total of 1871 〔()〕 species, of which 74 are endemic, 9 have been introduced by humans and 87 are rare or accidental. One species listed is extirpated in Colombia and is not included in the species count and 83 species are globally threatened. Species from the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina are included on this list. This list was last updated in 2009. Colombia has the largest bird list of any country on earth. The national checklist is maintained by Fundacion ProAves.〔()〕 This list's taxonomic treatment (designation and sequence of orders, families and species) and nomenclature (common and scientific names) follow the conventions of ''The Clements Checklist of Birds of the World'', 5th edition. The family accounts at the beginning of each heading reflect this taxonomy, as do the species counts found in each family account. Introduced and accidental species are included in the total counts for Colombia. Although they look similar to other ground-dwelling birds like quail and grouse, they have no close relatives and are classified as a single family, Tinamidae, within their own order, the Tinamiformes. They are distantly related to the ratites (order Struthioniformes), that includes the rheas, emus and kiwis.
